Routebeer is a road-trip planning app. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how to delete it. We've tried to write it the way we'd want to read one.
What we collect
- Account basics — your email address, the display name you set, and the avatar photo you upload (if any).
- Trip data — the trips you plan: their names, dates, stops, coordinates, notes, and any photos you add.
- Connections — the friends you invite and the collaborators you add to a trip. We store the email addresses you give us for these invitations.
- Device-local preferences — your theme and units choice, stored in your browser's local storage so they persist between sessions.
- Basic technical data — request logs needed to run the service (IP, timestamp, request type). We don't run third-party ad trackers and we don't sell data.
What we don't collect
- We don't track your real-time location. Trip coordinates are only the places you've added to a trip — we never ask for or read your phone's GPS in the background.
- We don't run advertising trackers.
- We don't sell your data, ever.
Why we collect it
- To let you sign in (your email).
- To save your trips so they're there next time you open the app.
- To share trips with friends you explicitly invite.
- To send the sign-in code to your email.
- To send notification emails about invites people send you (you can disable these in settings — coming soon).
Who we share data with
We use a handful of trusted third-party services to run Routebeer. Your data passes through them, but they don't have a separate right to use it:
- Supabase — hosts our database and authentication (US-based servers).
- Vercel — hosts the website itself.
- Mapbox — provides the maps you see. When the app loads a map for a trip, the coordinates of that trip are sent to Mapbox so they can render it.
- Resend — sends the sign-in code and (when enabled) invitation emails on our behalf.
We never share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it.
Where your data lives
Routebeer's database is hosted with Supabase on US-East servers. If you're outside the US, that means your data crosses borders when you use the app — this is unavoidable for any cloud service. By using Routebeer you consent to this transfer.
Cookies and similar
Routebeer uses your browser's local storage for two things:
- Authentication tokens (so you don't have to sign in every time).
- UI preferences (theme, units).
We don't use third-party cookies. We don't have an analytics product attached to the app yet — when we do, we'll choose one that respects do-not-track headers.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- See your data — every trip, photo, and connection is visible in the app.
- Export your data — write to us and we'll send you a JSON export of everything we hold for you (we'll build this into the app soon).
- Delete your account — open Settings → Privacy → Delete account. This removes your profile, your trips, your photos, your friend connections, and your authentication record from our servers within 30 days. Backups may persist for up to 60 days; we don't restore data from them.
- Correct your data — name and avatar are editable in Settings. For anything else, write to us.
Children
Routebeer is not designed for and not directed at children under 13. If you become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify signed-in users via the app the next time they open it.
